Simple Spring Wreath

For the past few years (like seven!), I've hung the same wreath on my door...
it's a gorgeous wreath...forsythia branches twisted into a circle, but this
year I was ready for a little change...

The problem....I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money...

I tried a lot of variations until I ended up with this.....

I had the felt already on hand and followed THIS tutorial to make the flowers.

I also had the fabric and just cut strips and wrapped and glued
it to the wreath form which is the only thing I bought....and I used my 40% off coupon!

This wreath has morphed a few times.  I started with this...

...but I decided that was a little too busy.

If you like that idea, all I did was go into my word processing program,
print out the letters, and cut the triangle shape around it.

So it's one wreath....two different ideas...

Sheet Music Wreath

I should have posted this months ago, but, I just forgot!

If you have an empty space on your wall that needs to be filled, you can fill it
for pennies using a sheet music wreath?  My friend, Jenny, made one for over her fireplace.

Just cut a circle out of a piece of cardboard and start gluing!  HERE is
a tutorial for how to make it using wire coat hangers!

I'll be picking a winner of the Minky Blankie tonight!!  You still have a
few hours to leave a comment!

Ice Cream Floats

Our Valentine's Day was a great success...

I have no idea how Bloggers post their holiday pictures before the actual holiday...
Do they stage the holiday a month before??? Post last year's pictures??
Tell me...how do you all do it??

I'm lucky to get pictures loaded on the computer, edited and in a post 2 days after the holiday!

I wanted to share these ice cream floats that we made because I think that they would be
WONDERFUL for St. Patrick's Day with just a little bit 'o tweaking!

I waited until....oh, Valentine's DAY to actually prepare.......it's been a busy month!
As I was driving to the Goodwill, I was just asking God..."Could there please be something
that resembles ice cream float cups at the Goodwill??"
I had seen THIS idea and wanted to try it!

Now there was a reason that I wanted to make this day "extra special!"  We had
our dear friends and neighbors with us...well, 2 of their kids.
The rest of the family spent the night at the hospital...again....the 2nd time in a week...
the kids were worried about little sister and I wanted to make the keep their minds
off of missing Mom and Dad...so I prayed!

And God answered my prayer!!

There were 10 ice cream float cups on the top shelf at the Goodwill!!!
I really felt that was a blessing from God that day!

We decorated our floats with pink....but I can also see green shamrocks
green sherbetGinger Ale and green sprinkles working for St. Patrick's Day!!

We added the sherbet, poured Cranberry Ginger Ale over them, added
whipped cream and Valentine heart sprinkles....

The best part.......the smiles!

Hope you all had a "love"ly day, too!

Sheet Music Rosette Valentine Wreath

Do you love free projects???  I sure do......and this wreath was FREE with the
exception that I went and bought new ribbon!

I started by making my heart template out of newspaper....FREE!

I traced it on an old piece of foam board....you could also use cardboard.....FREE!

Then I ripped old sheet music into pieces....the same book I used to make my Christmas ornaments....FREE!
Here's a link if you don't have your own free music!

I took the ripped pieces and covered the frame...

Then, I glued rosettes similar to THIS tutorial....

I broke down and bought new ribbon from Walmart for $2.00.....I didn't need
to....I have a whole BOX of ribbon in my basement....so essentially,
this project could have been done for $0.00!!!!

I love it when you can make beauty out of trash!!

If you like this....would you please PIN IT??

DIY Baker's Twine.....

Baker's twine is showing up everywhere! Check out some of these amazing ideas using baker's twine!

Martha Stewart used it to wrap Christmas gifts.....

Whipperberry embellished adorable crayon hearts with it.....

Jen's Ink Spot made these beautiful flowers to embellish a handmade card.....

Whisker Graphics shared these oh-so-cute cupcakes.....

The problem is that baker's twine is expensive.....a sample pack of 6 colors at 15 yards each at The Twinery costs $11.00!  That's a lot of money for string!

So when I saw this tutorial at {nifty thrifty things} I knew that it was too good and I had to share with you all!

Vanessa came up with a way to DIY your own baker's twine!!!
For the complete TUTORIAL, head over to {nifty thrifty things}!

Thanks, Vanessa, for giving us an affordable alternative!!

Rosette Pillow

After I finished up my DIY slipcovers, I had a pile of scraps left over.....what if I turned those into pillows???

Some of the scraps even had finished edges!!!

So I found the finished edges and overlapped them to make a pocket....

With the RIGHT sides together, I sewed a square and made a little pillow cover!

Then, I had an old pillow (my favorite stuffing material!) and leftover black cloth from
my daughter's ladybug Halloween costume.....

I grabbed my hot glue gun and started rolling fabric rosettes!!

And it didn't cost a thing!

Sweater Vases. . . .

I am working on putting together my winter mantle and I
just do NOT want to spend any money.....

I've seen these sweater vases and candles on Pinterest and
decided to try to make some myself.....

Our local Mennonite Relief store has 50% off on Friday evenings, so I
nabbed this cable-knit sweater for only $1.50!

The only problem was that it was sleeveless......I didn't realize that this was a
problem until I went home and checked out Pinterest and realized that
people were using the SLEEVE portion of the sweater....UGH!

Time for Plan B...

I decided that I could use the bottom ribbed portion of the sweater
and just hot glue it around my vases......close enough, right?

I wasn't quite sure what to do with the bottom so I just
trimmed the sweater along the very edge of the vase and let it go.

I did start running out of sweater by the end and just pieced
together the one candle, but as long as it is angled the right way,
you can't even tell!!

Tomorrow, I'll show you the rest of my mantle....
