I have been promising pictures for over a month.....well, here they are!
Before you look at the bathroom before pictures, let me just explain that the green paint was FREE! It matched my free shower curtain and now that the walls are no longer green.....I have no idea why I ever kept that color for as long as I did!
One of the first things that I did was remove my towel rack....underneath the brackets are teeny little screws.....unscrew them...and you are left with a bracket on the wall to take off.
What inspired this project was my friend, Erin....she had FREE paint that she was offering me....a beautiful calming and soothing blue....her blue paint helped inspired the idea of a white Board and Batten bottom...
Board and batten is cheap and easy.....the wood for this cost about $15 and I did TWO bathrooms and had wood leftover! We (my husband since I am terrified of the table saw!) ripped 2 x 4's and one 2x6 in half.....that way we doubled our amount of wood!
To do Board and Batten you just take wood and adhere it to the wall with nails and glue. We just used liquid nails. You then paint over it with a glossy white paint. They key is to make sure that everything is level! That's were I needed the hubby to come in and help.
HERE is an amazing tutorial for how to install Board and Batten if you'd like more assistance.
My next project was to cut down the mirror......although now I wish that I hadn't. I found an AMAZING way to frame out the whole thing, but it was after I had it cut....grrr! I found a local man who did an awesome job of cutting it for $5.00. He even smoothed the very sharp edges.
And the after......
I'd love to add beadboard to my bathroom sink like Stacy did HERE at The Creative Crate. She added it to the doors and side of her sink base and then painted it in white....very pretty! (Her mirror is what I wish I had done to mine!)
We framed the mirror with an old piece of baseboard. Attaching it was difficult because my husband refused to just glue it to the mirror....so it was a bit of a project!
I'm still not sure about the shelf....it may go and the Board and Batten may continue under the mirror. Your thoughts??
Tomorrow I'll show you how I added cheap accessories like the art work, the toothbrush holder and my containers for all the s-t-u-f-f that usually is sitting on my sink like this...
Can someone please tell me WHY there is a little green man face-down on my sink??? Really....that's a tad bit disturbing!
Cost Breakdown:
Wood---$7.50 (since I got 2 bathrooms out of the $15.00 of wood)
Paint---free....already had the white and the blue was from Erin

Artwork---$1.00 piece of scrapbook paper
Shelf---$4.00 from the Goodwill
Frame for the Mirror----extra piece of baseboard laying around in the basement

Update: The Blue paint color is Benjamin Moore Wedgewood Gray HC-146 but mixed in the Behr Premium Plus Ultra Paint and Primer in one (Looks like blue to me....)
*If you had to buy a quart of paint for the white then add another $10.00 and another $20.00 for a gallon of blue if you were buying it....although a quart may be enough.
Overall....a HUGE difference for very little money!!
I'm linking up with:
WOW, that is an incredible $20 remodel! It looks so chic. :-)
ReplyDeleteLooks great Nikki. Love the blue color - definitely calming. Looks like all your hard work paid off. I'm itching to do some board and batten in my house - one of these days.
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful!! I'd definately remove the shelf under the mirror and continue the board and batten! The colors are great too! My husband and I put up beadboard in our bathroom and painted it white. Then I painted the upper part a deep purple color from the Ralph Lauren collection. - Karen
ReplyDeleteIt looks great and for only $20.00!! That's my kind of decorating!!
ReplyDelete-Kim :)
This is amazing...you did a fantastic job!
ReplyDeletefantastic job! what a way to stay on a budget!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing! We are probably putting board and batten in a bathroom and I love it!
ReplyDeleteLove this! Great job!! I think I may be using some of you ideas here!!
ReplyDeleteI love your bathroom and man what a price! I thought the shelf is adorable and different, I say keep it.
ReplyDeleteI love it! Great job, wish I could do that to my bathroom but can't, apartment living... Someday maybe!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
ReplyDeleteGenius! I am so inspired! I say live with the shelf for a while. Not only does it look nice, but it will probably be totally practical! I think the framing on the mirror is the perfect style for the calm peaceful style of your room. And who doesn't need calm at 6:45am!!
ReplyDeleteNice job, Nicole! I had fun showing my M and Caleb the "before" pics and asking them if they recognized it. Caleb knew right off the bat it was "Wilkinson's?" As for the tiny green man face down, Caleb said, "'Cause the boys put it there," it's really that simple, Nikki. As for the shelf, I would prob'ly hit my forehead on it while washing my face. Continuing the board and batten would smooth out the look, you already have a lot going on on the walls and taking down the shelf may make it easier on the eye. But utility is also important in a bathroom. Enjoy and breath easy your bath is now done!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT! You are so creative. The mirror idea turned out beautiful. Might have to remember that one when we do our bathroom at some point! Great job! jenny m.
ReplyDeleteI love the change. The paint alone is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great and the price can't be beat. I am definitely jealous of your $5 mirror triming down price. Ours is probably double your size but I was quoted $130! Just for trimming the mirror! I could buy a new mirror for that price.
ReplyDeleteOut of curiosity, what color and brand is the paint?
I would love to do something like this in our house. We've got textured walls so that creates a dilemma but do I love the look of board and batten! Again, great job!
Thanks everyone! Well....the shelf is probably coming down so that I can continue the B&B under the mirror! I was getting too used to that shelf, but I have another idea for it now!
ReplyDeleteYou are my kind of girl! Love that color of ble! We are just about done with our super cheap master bath remodel, hope our turns out half as nice as yours did!
ReplyDeleteNicole, your bath turned out great! B & B just calms a room down I think. We had it in our previous home in a bath, and beadboard all through the kitchen and I miss it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your pretty space!
Sue
Very nice job on the board and batten...I've done this a couple times and love how it makes the room feel so much more architectural...and at such a low cost!
ReplyDeleteOh my...what a wonderful and thrifty bath makeover...love it!!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
Just popping over from Poppies at Play. Love seeing your beautiful place without having to leave mine.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour.
Fondly,

Looks great!! Wow! That was way cheap too! I love that!
ReplyDeleteAndy
Boy aren't you a thrifty whiz! I love it so pretty. Thanks for sharing how you did it and all the links.
ReplyDeleteIt only costs $20? You gotta be kidding me! It looks like the remodeling was done by a professional! Haha! Seriously, it looks great. Its older look is good, but the transformation is even greater. I think it’s just a combo of having great artistic talent and being resourceful.
