So in his free time, my hubby has been writing a book....a real book....like published by InterVarsity Press book...I say that because some people thought that we were paying people to print it....no...they actually paid him....not much but enough to go on one of those time-share-for-free-Disney-tickets deals....(That is a post of it's own one day! Let's just say as soon as you mention "God" and "Bible" the time-share salesmen flee and you can march over and get those free Disney tickets! )
This idea started a couple of years ago....one day he said...."I'm going to write a book"......I never doubted him....he is tenacious in his follow through (it's the only reason that we are in our third cycle of P90X because I'd never willingly drag this bottom out of bed to meet with Tony Horton in our basement at 7am!)
For a few years, there would be scraps of paper and books piled around......yes...books, books and MORE books! (I have issues with the number of books that he has.....let's just say that the UPS man knows me on a first-name basis because of all the books he delivers from Amazon!)
Scraps of paper became pads of paper.....thoughts became chapters and chapters became clearly defined ideas and arguments.....And he continued to write...and think....and buy books!
So how does one begin to get a book published.....you buy a BOOK on how to publish a BOOK....(I only wish that I were kidding! It really is sitting on a shelf right now....I'm just too lazy to go and take a picture of it!)
Truthfully, we had an amazing contact with a local nationally-known author who was published by IVPress....he tied us directly to an editor who liked John's submission....and from there.....a book! (Of course I am leaving out the MANY late nights of revisions, deadlines and rewrites.....)
All that to say that my hubby's book is coming out in March.....you can buy it on Amazon right HERE.
So you can probably tell by the dead bird on the cover that this is not about crafting, decorating or homeschooling! Actually, the cover is much improved....the first proposal had a purple cover with gold lettering and a very gold dead bird.....now if we were Minnesota Viking's fan that might work....probably not, but we are Eagle's fans so thankfully....the cover changed!
This book is for the person that is struggling with private doubts about God ......do you silently struggle with who God is and trusting in Him....this book can help you come to some answers...
Are you engaged with friends, neighbors, or co-workers who would like to believe but have too many questions and doubts?....this book can help you have conversations with those people....
Here is a short excerpt of a parable from Chapter 6...
......and some cool endorsements:
"John Wilkinson's book is . . . a wonderful post-apologetics apologetic for an authentic faith." - Scot Mcknight (Author, Jesus Creed)
"Logic will not make us into believers, and in this important book, he makes it clear that the just must live by faith in revelation." - Tony Campolo (Professor Emeritus, Eastern University)
"John Wilkinson's book represents one of the best responses to the attacks of modernist 'scholars' who insist that their limited view of the world is all that there could possibly be." - Chap Clark, Vice Provost, Fuller Theological Seminary
His blog can be found HERE at No Argument For God.....but don't expect to find any crafts there......yet!
Congrats to John! (and you too...Nikki for supporting him) My dad published a couple of books and I know how much time those things take! His last book actually paid for our wedding (ok, it was a very small...very simple wedding, but still...).
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the publication of a book! That's HUGE and so exciting!
ReplyDeletethat is awesome! we are huge readers in our house, i will have to put it on our list!
ReplyDeleteSo, we should have held onto his first draft and got his signature:) Y'all are meeting Tony again? I started back up along with doing the 17 day diet. I am feeling more energized already:)

Yay! Congratulation! And I'm so glad they changed the colors, but see they are still all for the dead bird. So, if I buy the book, next time I see him will he sign it for me? And does he explain in the book why he chose to write on this topic? Or do I need to ask him myself? Always curious why authors choose a topic, i.e. life experience, God inspired...
