Cute Hair Ideas. . .

It has always be a bit of a battle to style my daughter's hair.....She was blessed with one of those sensitive scalps and she has a mother who can't make a straight part for the life of her!

Last week, we were at dance class when 2 adorable little blond girls hopped out of their SUV on the way into class.  My daughter, breathless in the backseat gasped....."Mommy, their hair if bea-u-ti-ful!!"

Not wanting to look like a stalker, weird-o type, I climbed out of the car with my iphone and approached the mom asking if she'd mind if I took a picture of her daughter's scalp.....

My daughter had hopped out of the car behind my jumping up and down  excited by the potential of having her hair styled like that.....

The mom was exceedingly nice and understanding and allowed me to photograph her daughter's hair and then she shared with me a blog that she follows that is devoted entirely to little girl's hair!!

YES!!  That's exactly what I need!  Step-by-step photos, instructions and video tutorials!!

If you get a chance, stop over at Babes in Hairland.  You'll get some fabulous ideas and tutorials....like this Jack-O-Lantern Bun!!

And we made it through the entire styling process with no tears!!

My daughter keeps asking when I'll go check the computer for a new hairstyle!

Happy Styling!

Old Window Hairbow Holder

{Old window idea....}

I LOVE old windows!  In fact, you can read about how I use them for STORAGECHALKBOARDS, and  WALL DECOR.

Recently, I had an old window in my daughter's room.  It was one of the first windows that I tried to repurpose myself.  Let's just say that I've learned a lot since them!

I've been wanting a place to put all of her hairbows, ponytail holders, headbands, and more ponytail holders.  So I refashioned the window into this hairbow holder!

I began by ripping apart the window and using a staple gun to attach chicken wire to the back.  It was really easy to do.  I just trimmed it with my hubby's wire cutters.....actually kind've fun!

The problem.....we don't just have hair clips.  We have ponytail holders, headbands, and more ponytails holders.....none of which she ever actually keeps in her hair!

I wanted to organize those too, so I ran to our local True Value hardware store and grabbed some hooks that twist right into the wood. They cost all of $1.25 for 5 of them!!

To "fancy up the window" a bit, I went into my stash of fabric and made some twisted fabric flowers.....and just attached them with hot glue!  Love that stuff!

It's now a functional decorative piece in her room!

How do you organize your hair accessories??  A better question..how do you keep bows in your tomboy girl's hair???

Big Hairbows....

{Adorable big bows....}

So have you figured out that I am on a hairbow kick??? My little girl has two older brothers which means that normally....she is covered in mud and climbing a tree....

Yes....she loves her crafts.....but she loves her mud!  So, in my constant battle to make her look a little "girlie"....I have been madly creating hairbows....

I love that I have discovered ideas to make them CHEAP....because let's face it...hair bows at the store are expensive and most of mine end up falling in the mud or getting lost....it's just my life!

3 Little Chicks  whipped up some of these adorable bows!!

How about this....

There's even a video tutorial for how to make them!

Now if I could just get my daughter to keep it in her hair......

Ponytail holders.....

{Pretty Ponytail Ties}

Our church is amazing!  If you are ever in the Lancaster/Harrisburg/York area, you need to check out LCBC Church!  But anyway.....I get to work in a kindergarten environment......we have about 40ish kindergartners in our first service on a Sunday morning.

One Sunday a little girl came in with the most beautiful hair tie......as we worked on our craft, I ask her if her Mom had made it and then proceeded to examine how her Mom put it together.

Here's my best attempt at recreating what I saw that day!

First....pick coordinating ribbon in a variety of widths......

Find your center point and stack the ribbons from largest width to smallest.......at this point I actually then made my lengths vary too....it just gave it more variety and poof!

I then stitched an X by hand to hold all the ribbons together.

Find a coordinating hairband and stitch it to your ribbons......I thought that I was done at this point, but when I put it in my daughter's hair, it looked weird.

So I grabbed a piece of the pink polka dot ribbon and tied it around the hair band and the ribbons to make a more pronounced center-point.

It looks really cute in her hair.....and was so inexpensive to make!  I can't wait to make some red, white, and blue for the summer!
